馬祖的居民很快就有可能財源廣進。當地有將近百分之五十七的法定投票者於2012年七月通過了一項公投，允許馬祖得以開設台灣首間賭場。
除了賭場以外，他們也規劃興建一座設有奢華飯店、高級購物中心以及娛樂場館的度假勝地。此外，馬祖的基礎建設在得到改善的同時也會創造許多就業機會，當地的設籍居民每個月也有機會獲得高達八萬元的福利金。
賭客們毋須千里迢迢到遠處玩上幾把，而馬祖每年也估計會獲得一百五十五億元的稅收。
The residents of Matsu may soon be in the money. In July 2012, nearly 57 percent of the area’s eligible voters passed a referendum that would allow Taiwan’s first casino to be built there.
Besides the casino, a resort with luxury hotels, high-end shopping centers, and entertainment venues is planned. Furthermore, job opportunities will be created as Matsu’s infrastructure is upgraded, and registered residents will have a chance to receive a stipend of up to NT$80,000 each month.
Gamblers wouldn’t have to travel very far to have a good time, and Matsu would benefit from the estimated NT$15.5 billion in yearly tax revenues.
